Introduction
In the present paper we identify the emission and absorption lines as well as the
continuum discontinuity in the spectrum of the quasar 0420-388 on the basis of our
theory of quasars (Varshni,
1973,

1975a,
1977a,
1977b,
1978,
1979,
1985,
1988a,
1988b,
1988c,
Varshni and Lam, 1976,
Varshni and Nasser 1986).
Our theory does not require the
superfluous assumption of redshifts and is based on sound physical principles which
have been verified in the laboratory.
