Schematic of ISI a fine optical system that images the uniform aperture onto target. If optical distortion is small compared to focal spot, profile shape is only slightly distorted, (averaged over relevant hydrodynamic time scales) from Nike KrF Laser Facility

Final and largest amplifier (double pass). On either side of cell, four transmission lines drive electron beams guided by two large black 4 kG electromagnets. Beams are powered by Marx banks. In this photo, the right hand side of the system has been rolled back to display the electron beam emitter and the high voltage vacuum insulators.

Final mirror and lens array direct laser beams onto target (see also) The Propagation Bay is a 155-ft long insulated room. The temperature throughout can be held uniform to within a half degree Fahrenheit. Charcoal filters eliminate the UV absorbing gases.
