In fairness to Schmidt, we note here that he recognizes that 'If the cosmological hypothesis is correct, it is remarkable indeed that no single independent confirmation of the large distances exists as yet'. How can there be any confirmation, when there are no redshifts ?

The real importance of quasars lies in the beautiful physics they involve, leading to a display of phenomena of unparalleled splendor.
